What you record

Add one record for each alarm, room by room, with its type, power source, replace-by date and a pass or fail, and up to 10 photos you can mark up. Every fail carries a reason, and an alarm that's needed but missing is recorded as a fail: no alarm fitted. The overall result for the home is stated once.

For housing officers, void inspectors and repairs staff checking the alarms in houses and flats in Scotland, at a void, a service visit, a new tenancy or a reported fault. Each alarm is its own record, so a missing heat alarm in the kitchen shows up as a fail with its reason, not as a gap in the notes.

The alarm summary lists every alarm with its result and replace-by date, and the overall result records whether, in your view, the home meets the standard.
