This article covers what you can do without signal, what needs a connection, how syncing works, and what to do if something won’t upload.
What works without signal
Once you’ve signed in on a device, you can do most of your work with no connection:
- open the app;
- create projects (SiteVerity confirms your free allowance with our server when you’re back online);
- add records, photos, markup and floor plans;
- carry out fire door inspections;
- change your branding and settings (the changes are queued until you’re back online);
- make reports;
- export CSV;
- stop sharing a link (it’s sent when you’re back online with the app open).
What needs a connection
- Your first sign-in on a device, and creating an account. This includes Sign in with Apple, Sign in with Google, confirming your email address and resetting your password.
- Creating share links.
- Buying or restoring a plan, and switching it on.
- Opening reports or photos made on another device.
- Deleting your account.
How sync works
SiteVerity saves everything on your device straight away, then uploads it when you’re back in range. When there’s no connection, the project list shows “Offline · everything is saved on this device”.
Photos and reports each show their upload state, and so does each project on the project list.
A few things to know:
- Reports over 25 MB stay on the device that made them. They don’t upload, so you can’t create a share link for them, but you can still send them with Share PDF.
- Before it makes a report, SiteVerity fetches anything added on your other devices. If it can’t, it uses what’s on this device and adds a note to say records or photos added elsewhere may be missing. The report also uses this device’s copy of your logo and signature.
- If a project is archived on another device before your changes upload, changes to what was already there aren’t sent, and the project list tells you. Anything new you added, such as records, photos, floor plans and reports, is kept on this device and uploads if the project is unarchived. You can’t change them until the unarchive has synced.
- Until something has uploaded, the only copy is on your device. Don’t delete the app while anything is still waiting to upload.
If SiteVerity asks you to update
Now and then a version of the app becomes too old to work safely with the service. SiteVerity then shows Update SiteVerity. Tap Update to get the new version from the App Store.
- Until you update, your changes stay on this device and upload once you’ve updated.
- You can’t make reports or export CSV until you update.
- If Not now is offered, you can carry on working in the meantime.
If something won’t upload
SiteVerity keeps trying for a while. After a few failed attempts it stops and offers Retry.
- Check you have a connection, for example by opening a web page.
- Find what hasn’t uploaded. The project list shows which project it’s in, and the photo or report shows its upload state.
- Tap Retry. On a photo it’s Retry upload. For a report or a plan, swipe it and tap Retry.
